1) Fractured Reality. What you see is a Lie. The world you see is a membrane, stretched over - something else. Sometimes, in some places, the membrane is worn out, becoming paper-thin - or fracturing. If you would be in such a place, you could fall through - but you mustn't... Idea: anytime you perceive this underlying reality (hint: reflecting puddles of water on a rainy day, mirrors...) you become scared of the Beyond. This means: no mirrors! Highly reflective surfaces are totally /verboten/, because the Other You could pull you in and take your place. Also, avoid still-standing water - it's not water. It's a hole in the world. Who knows what would happen if you fell through? 2) Dual-personality You were born a noble, or a modern day equivalent (top level manager, banker, medical specialist, politician...) and therefore have all the resources, contacts and influence one of the Damned could wish for. There's a catch. When the stress of your life becomes too much to bear, you revert to a pariah. My favorite is "El chofer del Taxi", which is pig spanish for "the cab-driver". Drive around in your yellow cab, be incomprehensible, act like a foreign fool. Then, when you feel the need for stability and order, take up your Queen's English and act the gentleman. [Agreed, this one's not very scary. It is, however, a fun concept to play out. For a laugh, split resources and influence to the Upper class personality, and the contacts to the cabby - and don't let the rich personality become aware of the other one's existance or information gathered. Make notes to yourself, becoming frustrated and scared when you find spanish notes in your clothes every couple of days. And what's that smell?] Gieljan de Vries
