The Fool by Erehwon In medieval times, the wisest man was the court fool. The king's advisors were often sycophants, who would agree with anything the king said, and tell him whatever they thought he wanted to hear. But whenever a group of people does the same thing, it's almost impossible to tell whether it's a good thing or not. Therefore, it was the fool's job to parody any proposal under discussion. The fool's jokes forced the king to re-examine the situation, and often brought up new issues that were previously unseen. In this way, the king protected himself from the truly bad ideas brought before him, and could better determine what course of action to take. It is from this hallowed basis that the tradition of Malkavian pranking arises. We are the court fools, who must ridicule the ideas and suppositions put before us. By our pranks, we force people to challenge their assumptions, and look at things in another way. By our pranks, we reopen the minds of others to another view of reality. By our pranks, we make people think. Without us, the sect would stagnate and die. So prank well, and prank often.
