Why, why, why!!?!? Why do the Sabbat Malkavians have Dementation, while the Camarilla Malkavian have Dominate?

In the Dark Ages, there was no Camarilla, and no Sabbat. All Malkavians had Auspex, Dementation, and Obfuscate. But in modern day, the Malkavians in the Camarilla have Dominate instead of Dementation, while the Malkavians in the Sabbat still have Dementation. Why? Here are some thoughts...

Two other thoughts:
The Camarilla Malks are the antitribu
The Tremere did it

Who says they don't? More importantly, _why did you believe them_?

Well, Dominate has its own uses. For one, you can make someone ACT crazy without them being mad. More fun that way. See, if you Dementate someone you can't predict what they'll do. Dominated victims act just like you need them to. I think it's useful, meself.

It was too easy with Dementate. Camarilla Malkavians are handicapping themselves back to the level of the other clans.

From Daisy DeadPetals
Those Malkavians in the Sabbat are truer to their nature and closer to Malkav, thus are able to revel in Dementation as opposed to the Camarilla Malkavians who fight their nature to be restrained and kow tow to their Camarillla coddlers.

What do you mean they don't have Dementate? Of _course_ they have Dementate. They just _never use it._

Once upon a time there was but ONE clan of Malkavians and they all had Dementation. They skirted the issues and poked fun at the Elders and generally were a rather dangerous bunch. Then one day, the Mean Old Camarilla came along and enlisted part of the Malkavians to join them. But in the process of becoming a Camarilla member, they lost their ability to spread the insanity and got Dominate instead. It was a shitty deal if you ask me. Now there are TWO clans of Malkavians, but we all know who is better: The Sabbat!

ok, that's one theory, here's mine, we never did lose the Dementation, we just tricked everyone else into thinking that we did, so we could hide it all for ourselves, but then i guess we forgot where we put it. I may have mine under my bed, but i can't be sure, and it's scary down there. I may get lost. lost again, london bridge

It is impossible to distinguish between Dementate and Dominate used for a demented agenda.

My personal opinion is that it's mostly an Out of Character reason. V:TM, the basic Camarilla book, came out first, and the Malkavians were given Dominate. However, when the Player's Guide to the Sabbat came out, the idea of a discipline that caused madness had been brought up. Obviously, the Malkavians should have it. It was too late to give it to the Camarilla Malkavians, but since a lot of the other clans were being changed, why not give it to the Malkavian antitribu? When Dark Ages came out, it was realized that Dementation was the most appropriate Malkavian discipline, so it was given to them. Unfortunately, this causes a number of In-Character problems in why the Camarilla Malkavians "lost" Dementation. Hence the above. 7;-)
