Hi there. I'll assume this is your first trip to the Malkavian Web Page. Even if it isn't, assuming that it is makes things a lot easier on me.
Here, I'm going to try to explain a little bit of meta-Malkavian philosophy: who we really are, why we're interested in Malkavians; that sort of thing. I'm not going to try and give a good definition or history of what a Malkavian actually is, in strictest and original sense. There are other things written about that. Look back a page if you don't believe me. In fact, take a look at one of those first. It might help to have some background information.
Anyway, I suppose that's enough rigamarole for now. On to the main event. For the most part, people interested in Malkavians are a little bit different than your average Joe on the street. We tend to be a little bit unusual, a little bit wacky, and, a little bit insightful. Kind of like the Malkavians themselves.
At least from my perspective, the reason a lot of people are interested in the legend of these insightful madmen is that we're kind of like that ourselves. Looking at things from a different viewpoint, from a different angle, from some way that people might call mad...this is how something new and wonderful comes about. This is genius. This is raw creativity and pure inspiration. No joke.
But that's not all to it. Another side, just as important as the first, is that by expressing ourselves in this way, we find that there really are others who are, at least in some little way, like us. From the legend of the Malkavian Madness Network, we get the idea of bridging the gaps between different perspectives and personalities, to forge bonds to those few people who think just as oddly as we do.
Maybe not. But I, at least, like to think that there's a universal archetype in the Malkavian idea. That by acknowledging that we are all incredibly, unfathomably unique and different, we can paradoxically find the tools to understand each other, and find the common ties within us all. So yeah, maybe it's a little bit hackneyed, and a little bit sappy...but maybe, just maybe...it's a little bit true.
