Now, this page has a simple concept. It is to bring together a large amount of material, as well as make some new material available. This material is largely of interest to people who are interested in Malkavians. You do not have to know anything about Malkavians to be interested in the page, nor do you have to have any connection to vampires, roleplaying games, or anything else. An open mind, however, is desired. Now, most of you who are reading this have no idea what a Malkavian is, much less how they relate to the information on these pages, or even how to make sense of what has been put up on the Malkavian Page. This page is for you; a real life explanation of the history of Malkavians, and an explanation of some of the material on these pages.
In 1986, a small company called White Wolf was created. It is a company dedicated to redefining roleplaying. Roleplaying, for those of you who do not know, is a genre of games in which one takes on the role of a character, and controls what his (or her) character does. One person does not have a character; this is the Storyteller, who sets up the outside world and situations around the characters.
Soon after its birth, White Wolf created the game Vampire: The Masquerade. (Later, in 1992, a revised second edition of the game was released) In this game, the characters took on the roles of vampires, eternally struggling against the beast within to retain their humanity in a dark, gothic-punk world. A delicate infrastructure of rules and politics surrounded the vampires in this World of Darkness, where dark Princes controlled the world's cities, unknown to the human population. In addition, the vampires in the game were split into seven main clans, or bloodlines of vampires. One of these was the clan Malkavian.
While you can learn more about clan Malkavian in the definition, it's a bit eccentric. Instead, I'll concentrate first on the people who tend to play Malkavians. A good person to talk to about Malkavian players is someone who goes by the name the fiend. You may also want to see some essays on the subject. Anyway, Malkavians tend to attract a certain type of people. This web page, therefore, tends to appeal to those people, but also to many other types. Enjoy it either way.
A final note is that most of the rest of these web pages are written somewhat "in-character". That is, written in the style which a Malkavian might write in. This page also has many links to interesting non-Malkavian topics. However, a basic understanding of the situation behind the Malkavians will make things much clearer when reading this page. I hope that you have now gained this, and encourage you to enjoy the page!
